

Manager, Business Innovation Programs, Maine Technology Institute (MTI)
Joe is the manager of the Business Innovation Team at Maine Technology Institute. This team covers the Seed Grant, Development Award, Accelerated Commercialization Fund and Federal Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR/STTR) programs. Involved with a series of family-owned small businesses throughout his career, he also worked in the commercial shellfish industry while earning his undergraduate degree.
During 10 years at IDEXX Laboratories, he started on the ‘bench’ and was involved in some key commercial assay development projects for the company in veterinary R&D. He served as a supervisor of global technical support and a product-line manager with responsibility for strategy, expansion, customer satisfaction, and achievement of contribution goals. He has formal and practical training in immunology, bioassay and product development.
Joe attended the University of Maine, initially focusing on engineering, and obtained a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Southern Maine. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University. Joe lives Freeport, where he is an owner in a retail business with his wife. He serves on the town council and economic development corporation board of directors.
