Gold Star Honeybees was founded in December of 2007 in preparation for the 2008 beekeeping season. The company began as a "Beekeeping Service" - keeping bees in top bar hives at permanent, stationary locations on client properties. By the end of 2008, the idea of manufacturing the top bar hives being used in our service as easy to assemble kits - identical kits with all interchangeable parts - had been born.

In April, 2009 - the Gold Star Deluxe Top Bar Hive kit was launched as the flagship product. The Deluxe Kit was soon joined by two "Do-It-Yourself" kits - the DIY#1 and DIY#2 - as well as a Feeder Kit, and a Honey Harvest Kit.

In 2010 - began offering the Top Bar Beekeeping 101 - Weekend Intensive class. This class attracts students wanting to learn this sustainable beekeeping method from all over - other states, and even from Canada in one case. There are currently five Weekend Intensive classes being offered through the end of 2011. Along the way, the Gold Star Honeybees "How-To" video series was launched on YouTube. These conversational "FAQ" videos have been applauded for their clarity and helpfulness.
