 Michael Goldman was a junior in high school on October 19, 1987 when the US stock market shed 22%of its value in a single day. “Black Monday” still holds the record as the largest daily percentage loss in US stock market history. Mysteriously, nothing of particular note happened that day to explain this drop, but market psychology was cited as a leading cause both then and now.

Black Monday sparked Michael’s interest in investing and the psychological underpinnings of the markets. Before the Web existed, Michael was analyzing and trading stocks from his dorm room computer at University of Texas at Austin, while he completed his honors thesis on the relationship between consumer sentiment and stock market price movements. He later extended this research at New York University, where he completed a Masters degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
