Bio:  Sergei Breus immigrated to the United States in 1990, having left a previous career as an oceanographer, and built a successful general contracting and property development business. He is the co-inventor with his father of the Breus Turbine, which he has patented and is the process of ocean testing for overall performance and electrical generation.

Bio:  Mary Alice Hurvitt cofounded an architecture firm, as the business and project administrator, which grew 10 fold (revenue-wise) in 10 years. Since joining Maine Blue Stream Power, she has written four grants for product development, all of which have been funded. Company Description:  Maine Blue Stream Power (MBSP) is developing a tidal in-stream energy conversion device. Based on an innovative turbine, it is designed to generate electricity with minimal environmental impact. In-stream tidal current devices are submerged in the tidal flow and harness the kinetic energy of the water without requiring a dam or impoundment. The major benefits of tidal power are that it is non-polluting, reliable, and predictable. The company in was formed in 2009. We have received two Seed Grants in the past 12 months from the Maine Technology Institute which have allowed us to patent the Breus Turbine (patent pending #09106M), test a bench model of the device at the University of Maine Orono (UMO) tow tank, and perform computational fluid dynamic modeling in order to increase design efficiency. We have just been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to conduct field-testing at the Tidal Energy Demonstration and Evaluation Center (TEDEC) and the Maine Maritime Academy (MMA).
